"Many folks have asked about the release of v6.0. We did "jump the gun" and get a bit over-ambitious when we made announcements previously. I think we under-estimated the volume of "unfinished work" in the current application suite. Stated another way - because I want to take credit for the under-estimation of "unfinished work" - this was my fault."
"It was me who pushed my partners to continue the development of 5.x to complete "unfinished work" and continue providing it for FREE. And we have invested thousands of hours to continue providing HRD for FREE to anyone who wants to download it. That said - there are some users who (a) want to contribute to the cause or (b) who need our hands-on assistance with working through problems unique to their setup. To that - we began the pre-sales program to accommodate those cases."
"Otherwise - and this is important - we could have slapped a v6.0 splash-screen on the 5.x product... called it "new"... discontinued providing updates for FREE... and sold it at full price. If we had done this, I was expecting a full-out assault from folks who said, "All you really did was rebrand it and stick a price-tag on it."
"Stated another way... I personally held up the release of v6.0 because the feature additions that I wanted... NEW things... weren't yet complete because of the amount of time we spent on finishing 5.x."
Version 6 is in BETA. The current build is 6.00.75. The development team and beta sites are moving right along and are coming close to getting everything together for the preview later this month. The team is continuing development and testing. Compatibility with the new Windows 8 has already been confirmed for Version 6 and the current version of HRD.
